Recovery From Substance Use Leader David Rook of Richmond, VA
David Rook leads efforts to combat addiction as the president and owner of Next Frontier Recovery in Richmond, VA. In addition to helping clients live drug-free, David Rook’s company provides peer support and other recovery support services to Virginia residents, in the Richmond metropolitan area. He also develops the organization’s growth strategy, integrates clinical staff into daily care, and ensures integrity, quality, and teamwork.
Mr. Rook previously served as president of True Recovery RVA, where he met recovery residence standards set by governmental agencies and the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences (VARR). He also represented True Recovery in community affairs and oversaw budgets and fundraising as it grew from a small facility to one with almost 250 beds. David was placed in the Who,s Who Top Executives in 2021.
In 2012, Mr. Rook joined the McShin Foundation's team eventually being promoted to Operations Manager, where he supervised men’s and women’s program directors, intake coordinators, and maintenance personnel. He also met with clients’ families, spent time attending events, and provided the Mcshin Foundations Recovery Coach Training across the country. He saw and met with hundreds of people each year. David was recognized in 2015 as Employee of the Year.
In 2014, Mr. Rook became the board president of the VARR, where he and his colleagues advocated to legislators for millions to provide grants to people seeking recovery housing. He led VARR into a partnership with the Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services. As a result, Virginia was able to begin certifying recovery residences using national best practices. In 2024 David was presented with VARR's trailblazer awards.
Mr. Rook is also an educator for the NADAAC Association of Addiction Professionals. Through his company, FAVOR of VA, he provides several trainings aimed at improving the peer workforce in Virginia.
In his leisure time, he enjoys fishing for catfish in the James River with his son, attending wrestling matches with his middle son, shopping with his daughter, playing with the five year old, and things like estate sales with his wife. If Mr. Rook isn't working, it's likely he is doing something with his family.
